Blowout by Rachel Maddow
I just finished reading Blowout by Rachel Maddow. She does a great job of talking about the oil and gas industry, where it is headed and the ramifications of a switch to the next technology that furnishes the energy source for the world.
Rachel speaks about Putin and Trump, Oklahoma City and the University of Oklahoma and their roles in the development of fracking technology in the oil and natural gas industry. And brought with it a barrage of literal earthquakes and other physical disadvantages.
The oil and gas industry in the United States will “mindlessly” follow its own nature, making tons of money while destroying our democracy, says Rachel Maddow.
The question, Ms. Maddow asks, is how can we get along in the future without oil and gas? She advocates that as we pursue that goal through technological improvements, we develop a measure of constraint and regulatory protection against the destructive nature of the industry.
Rachel believes the oil and gas industry should fully disclose the bribes they make to oil and gas executives and politicians who support the industry. It’s time, she says, for the most ruthless and reckless industry in the world to pay for what it does. It is literally insane for the U.S. government to be subsidizing oil and gas drilling and supporting the continuing decline in the climatic environment of the planet.
Coal is dead, just like whale oil and kerosene and soon oil and gas as a major energy for the planet will also be dead and when it dies, jobs will be lost but these will become jobs in other industries—a painful adjustment but one similar to what we have gone through before.
“The only way to fight the industry’s reliance on corruption and capture is to pass democratically supported containment. Democracy either wins this one or disappears. I hope it wins.
If you are from Oklahoma or the University of Oklahoma, you will enjoy Blowout by Rachel Maddow.
